During the Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase event on Thursday, Square Enix unveiled two new gaming titles, including a forthcoming entry in the Octopath Traveler series. Titled Octopath Traveler 0, this HD-2D turn-based RPG is set to launch on December 4, 2025, and will be available on multiple platforms, including PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series S/X, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2. Additionally, the company introduced The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, a single-player action-RPG expected to be released next year.
Introducing Octopath Traveler 0
Both titles are being developed by Team Asano, a studio within Square Enix. Octopath Traveler 0 serves as the third installment in the acclaimed turn-based RPG series and presents a self-contained narrative situated before the storylines of the original Octopath Traveler and its sequel. Players will traverse the realm of Orsterra, driving a quest for revenge following the destruction of their settlement.
The game will introduce an innovative feature allowing players to fully customize the main character, a first for the franchise. Throughout their adventure, players will engage in rebuilding their hometown, recruit from over 30 diverse characters, and participate in turn-based battles. True to the series tradition, the game will feature the distinct HD-2D visual style, merging pixel art with 3D environments and contemporary graphical effects.
In a blog post, Square Enix expressed that Octopath Traveler 0 draws inspiration from “story elements and gameplay ideas” found in Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent, a free-to-play mobile game released in 2020.
The company stated, “This new entry in the OCTOPATH TRAVELER series has been designed as a full-fledged console and PC RPG. It takes the acclaimed story from the mobile release but reworks it to add new story content and streamlines the overall narrative for an engaging experience.”
Further details highlight that the RPG will feature a completely new script incorporating unique narrative elements and expanded backstories for the playable characters, supplemented by full voice acting to enhance the storytelling experience.
Octopath Traveler 0 will be offered in several editions: Standard Edition, Digital Deluxe Edition, and Collector’s Edition. Pre-orders for both physical and digital versions are currently available on PlayStation and Xbox storefronts. Digital pre-orders can also be made for PC and PS4, while physical pre-orders for Switch and Switch 2 are available, with digital versions expected at a later date. The Collector’s Edition can be pre-ordered through the Square Enix Store.

Unveiling The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales
The second title from Team Asano, The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, focuses on real-time action combat and exploration. Players will guide Elliot, the main character, accompanied by their fairy companion Faie, as they delve into recently discovered ancient ruins.
Elliot has access to seven varieties of melee and ranged weapons to confront various foes encountered throughout the game.
A demo for The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is now available for download on Nintendo Switch 2, with the full game slated to release in 2026 on the Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC (via Steam and Microsoft Store).
