On Tuesday, Spotify for Podcasters unveiled a new ‘Comments’ feature aimed at enhancing interaction between listeners and podcasters. This functionality allows users to leave comments on podcast episodes, fostering real-time engagement with creators. The app has also undergone an update, introducing features that provide live performance metrics for podcasts and notifications when a podcast ascends the Spotify charts. This enhancement follows a recent price hike for subscription plans in the U.S., which was implemented for the second time in a year.
In a blog post, Spotify outlined the details of the Comments feature along with other updates to the Spotify for Podcasters app. This addition builds upon the previously launched Q&A feature from 2021, aiming to facilitate more straightforward interaction between podcasters and their audience.
Podcasters will have control over the comments section, enabling them to respond to individual comments, select which comments appear during live episodes, or disable comments for specific episodes or for the entire show. Users will receive notifications if their comments are acknowledged or liked by the podcaster. Moreover, podcasters retain the authority to delete comments and block users if necessary.
Alongside the introduction of the Comments feature, the Spotify for Podcasters app has also been enhanced to include comprehensive analytics, allowing creators to monitor the performance of specific episodes. The update also promises new audience insights, giving podcasters access to data about where their shows are resonating with listeners, according to Spotify.
The Comments feature is now available on the Spotify for Podcasters app. However, this development marks the end of the Q&A feature, which will be sunsetting, though any existing Q&A content will still be accessible on the episodes page.
