The cooperative action-adventure game Split Fiction from Hazelight Studios has enjoyed a remarkable launch. The developer reported on Monday that the game sold one million copies within just 48 hours of its release. Additionally, it has swiftly ascended to the top of Steam’s sales charts, overtaking Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds as the leading title currently available.
Split Fiction Achieves One Million Sales
Hazelight announced this significant sales achievement in a message posted on X. As a two-player co-op experience that does not support solo gameplay, the impressive figure of one million copies indicates that approximately two million players have engaged with the game since its debut.

Currently, Split Fiction ranks prominently on Steam’s Top Sellers chart, holding the second position behind the free-to-play game Counter-Strike 2. Reports from SteamDB charts corroborate the game’s success on the platform, showing it as the fifth most played game on Steam when considering peak concurrent players over the last 24 hours, with a peak player count reaching 259,003. However, specific figures on player engagement and sales on console platforms remain unavailable.
Hazelight’s earlier title, It Takes Two, also achieved notable success, selling over 23 million copies since its launch in 2021 and winning the Game of the Year award at The Game Awards 2021.
Split Fiction, published under Electronic Arts’ EA Originals label, builds upon the cooperative mechanics seen in It Takes Two, featuring varied levels and evolving gameplay elements that deliver distinctive experiences throughout the game. Players assume the roles of Mio and Zoe, two writers trapped within their narratives, exploring a blend of Sci-Fi and Fantasy realms. The title is now accessible on PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and the EA App, as well as on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X, offering full cross-play functionality across all platforms.
