The 1.002.000 update for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has rolled out, introducing the highly anticipated New Game+ mode, additional suits for its protagonists, and a variety of quality-of-life enhancements. This update also includes new options for mission replay, the ability to adjust the in-game time of day, and improved accessibility features. However, it has inadvertently introduced a bug, as Insomniac Games confirmed that some players may gain access to a development game menu, which could potentially affect save files and trophy progress.

Released on Thursday, Insomniac provided a detailed overview of the new features available in the update through their release notes, specifically for PS5 users. A key highlight of this patch is the New Game+ mode, enabling players who have finished the game to re-enter the story while retaining all their upgrades and gear.

The New Game+ mode will feature Ultimate Levels, allowing players to exceed the original level cap. As players progress in the NG+ mode, they’ll gain access to new symbiote suit styles, upgraded gadget aesthetics, a shared Suit Tech slot for both Spider-Men, along with a new PlayStation trophy dedicated to the completion of the NG+ run.

Players can also revisit specific missions from the main storyline and alter the time of day in-game by navigating to ‘Time of Day’ within the Gameplay settings. Furthermore, customization options for symbiote tendril colors have been added for player convenience.

The update introduces new Spider-Man suits, notably two inspired by Hellfire Gala designs tailored for Peter and Miles. Additionally, the heroes will receive two suits from the Fly N’ Fresh suit pack—a paid feature priced at $4.99—with proceeds benefiting Gameheads, a program aimed at training low-income youth in the gaming industry across the United States.

In terms of new capabilities, players can look forward to enhancements in photo mode, audio descriptions for cutscenes, screen reader support for menu text, tutorials, and control hints among other improvements. The complete list of features can be found in Insomniac’s release notes.

Insomniac Games also addressed the bug in a post on X, highlighting the unintended access to a development game menu that might corrupt save files and trophy progress. “We’re aware the latest game update may have inadvertently allowed access to a development game menu. There’s a hotfix on the way,” they stated.

Some players have reportedly explored the developer options and discovered references to missions not currently implemented in the game, which may suggest the potential for upcoming downloadable content (DLC). While no story expansion has been confirmed by Insomniac yet, the narrative of Spider-Man 2 leaves several open threads that could be further developed in future add-ons. Notably, the 2018 title, Marvel’s Spider-Man, also featured a story expansion called The City That Never Sleeps.

Players can now download the 1.002.000 update on PS5. Insomniac has indicated that a second update follows closely behind the first and that players must install both to utilize all the new features.
