Snap Inc. has unveiled plans to release a new product named ‘Specs’ in 2026, marking its first consumer-oriented augmented reality (AR) smart glasses. The parent company of Snapchat, a popular platform for video and photo messaging, has previously introduced five generations of AR glasses, although these have primarily been available to developers. The forthcoming Snap Specs will feature machine learning capabilities and an AI assistant, allowing users to share gaming experiences with friends. Additionally, it is anticipated to integrate with the Snapchat app.

Over the past 11 years, Snap has invested approximately $3 billion (around Rs. 25,650 crore) into the development of its AR glasses. While the fifth generation of Snap’s smart glasses was launched last year, it remained limited to developers, similar to its predecessors.
The upcoming Snap Specs will operate on the proprietary Snap OS and offer advanced three-dimensional AI assistance. Although specific details regarding the Specs’ specifications have not yet been disclosed, further information is expected to emerge in the coming months.
The previous developer-only model included dual Snapdragon chips, a battery with a lifespan of up to 45 minutes per charge, and titanium vapor chambers for enhanced thermal efficiency.
Snap OS has undergone several updates, incorporating integration capabilities with OpenAI and Gemini on Google Cloud. Developers will have the opportunity to craft AI-driven Lenses for Snapchat that enable features such as currency conversion, text translation, or recipe suggestions based on visible ingredients. Furthermore, new APIs for Depth Module, Snap3D, and Automatic Speech Recognition will also be accessible to developers, according to the company.
