Firefox is set to introduce a new feature that allows users to shake their iPhone to receive an AI-generated summary of the current webpage. This functionality will begin rolling out this week, powered by Apple’s on-device AI model specifically for iPhone 15 Pro models and newer, coinciding with the launch of iOS 26.

For devices running older versions of iOS, Mozilla will utilize its own cloud-based AI system to generate summaries, which will then be displayed over the webpage. Users can activate the AI summary feature not only by shaking their devices but also by tapping the “thunderbolt” icon located in the address bar or by selecting “Summarize page” from the three-dot menu at the bottom of the screen.

Mozilla has indicated that users will have the option to disable this feature at any time, ensuring that unintended shakes do not trigger an unwanted summarization. It is important to note that the shake-to-summarize function is limited to webpages containing fewer than 5,000 words.

This initiative positions Firefox as one of the first major third-party applications to integrate with Apple’s AI capabilities. The shake-to-summarize feature will initially be available exclusively in the United States and in English, though plans for future expansion to global markets and Android users are already in the works.
