Santa Monica Studio, the developer known for the acclaimed God of War series, is reportedly venturing into new territory with a forthcoming game that is expected to be a fresh intellectual property. Following the release of God of War Ragnarök in 2022, the studio has not officially announced any projects. However, information shared on a LinkedIn profile of a staff member hints at the development of a new IP.
Upcoming Project from Santa Monica Studio
A report from Video Games Chronicle (VGC), cited via ResetEra, indicates that Glauco Longhi, who holds the position of Character Supervisor at the studio, mentioned in his LinkedIn profile that he is involved in the creation of a new IP. His profile reportedly states, “Santa Monica Studios presented the opportunity of coming back as Character Supervisor, looking after the entire Character Development pipeline, on their new IP, so here I am, thrilled to be back, working again with the crew and pushing Characters in videogames together.”
Currently, Longhi’s LinkedIn profile describes his role as supervising character development on an unannounced project, without explicit reference to a new IP.
Previously, Longhi had an extensive background with Naughty Dog, another studio under Sony’s umbrella, where he served as a Senior Character Artist on Uncharted 4. He then transitioned to Santa Monica Studio, contributing as a Senior Staff Character Artist on God of War (2018) and later as Lead Character Artist for God of War Ragnarök. After a stint at Striking Distance Studios as Character Director on The Callisto Protocol and subsequent work as Studio Art Director at Unknown Worlds Entertainment, Longhi rejoined Santa Monica in April 2023.
While the studio has yet to publicly disclose details about its next project, Cory Barlog, the studio’s creative director, has previously hinted at ongoing developments. Santa Monica Studio has been speculated to be creating the next installment in the God of War franchise as well as a new IP. In March, Barlog alluded to the new project in a post on X, mentioning that preliminary elements of the in-development game were “coming together.”
The studio is known for its work on God of War Ragnarök in 2022 and recently released free DLC named Valhalla for the game in 2023. As of now, both Santa Monica and Sony have not provided any details regarding the timeline for the anticipated title.
