Reports suggest that Samsung may introduce its inaugural tri-fold smartphone as early as next week. An image believed to depict the Samsung Galaxy G Fold was recently uncovered by a media outlet, providing insight into the anticipated device. Set to launch nearly a year after the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design, Samsung’s tri-fold phone is expected to utilize a G-shaped folding mechanism, diverging from the S-shaped design seen in its competitor’s model. Alongside the Galaxy G Fold, Samsung is projected to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and Galaxy Watch 8 series at its upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event.
Features of Samsung’s Tri-Fold Smartphone
According to reports from Android Authority and AssembleDebug, animations found in the latest One UI 8 beta reveal a smartphone much broader than the Galaxy Z Fold 7. One of these animations implies that the Galaxy G Fold will consist of three display panels linked by two hinges. Another file appears to illustrate a sizeable inner display that will be prominent when the device is fully opened.

The visual preview of the tri-fold smartphone suggests that one of the outer panels will accommodate a vertically aligned camera module featuring three sensors. The central panel is likely intended to serve as the cover display, complete with a hole punch cutout for the front-facing camera. The functionality of the third outer panel remains unclear, as the animation files do not seem to indicate any specific components residing there.
In contrast to the Huawei Mate XT, which features an S-shaped fold, the Samsung device’s G-shaped fold allows both panels to fold inward, resulting in a cover display on the outer panel. The inner display bears a resemblance to Huawei’s tri-fold models; however, the animation files suggest that users will need to exercise caution to avoid inadvertently folding the panel with the protruding camera module before the other panel.
Moreover, an additional camera is located on the right panel of the inner display, likely intended for video calls or selfies when fully unfolded. Some animation files refer to the device as the “Multifold 7,” possibly serving as an internal codename for Samsung’s first tri-fold smartphone.
Samsung has not officially confirmed the existence of a tri-fold smartphone, so it is advisable to approach these claims with caution. The company may choose to tease the upcoming device during its next Galaxy Unpacked event on July 9. In previous instances, Samsung has teased products such as the Galaxy Ring and Galaxy S25 Edge at events, leading to speculation that the tri-fold smartphone could make its debut next week, with an official launch slated for later this year.
