Samsung’s deployment of its Android 15-based One UI 7 operating system is still ongoing, but reports suggest that the tech giant is already gearing up for an early launch of the next version. Sources indicate that One UI 8, which will be based on Android 16, is set to be pre-installed on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 foldable smartphones, both of which are anticipated to debut later this year.

According to insider information shared by SamMobile, Samsung plans to release its new foldable smartphones — rumored to be the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 — with One UI 8 right out of the box. This points to the possibility that these devices will launch running on the Android 16-based software.
The unveiling of Samsung’s next generation foldable phones is speculated for July this year, aligning with the release schedules of previous models.
Furthermore, reports suggest that Samsung has initiated testing for its forthcoming operating system. A recent tip has revealed that an internal test build of One UI 8 has been discovered on the company’s server, referred to as “newfound test firmware”. This version is identified by the build number S938BXXU1BYC1/S938BOXM1BYC1/S938BXXU1BYC1, which is linked to the flagship Galaxy S25 series. This development hints that Samsung may have accelerated its OS development timeline, beginning the process two months earlier than typical.
As for the release of Android 16, a Google official has confirmed that it is scheduled for June 2025. The update could transition to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) by June 3, allowing original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) like Samsung to customize the operating system for their devices in preparation for launch.
Currently, there is no official information regarding the specific features or the rollout timeline for Samsung’s One UI 8 update. Additional details are expected to emerge in the coming months as the release date approaches for the Android 16-based operating system.
