Samsung has begun the rollout of its May software update for its latest Galaxy A series smartphones, which include the Galaxy A56, Galaxy A36, and Galaxy A26. A significant addition in this update is a new function for the power button, allowing users to access the Gemini AI feature quickly. Previously, this functionality was exclusive to the flagship Galaxy S series smartphones, but with the May update, it now extends to the more affordable Galaxy A models.

According to a report by Sammyfans, the update enables Google Gemini access on the Galaxy A56 and Galaxy A36 through the side button, allowing users to activate the AI assistant by simply pressing and holding the button. The integration of this feature, powered by One UI 7, comes with the May 2025 security patch.

The Galaxy A26 is also included in this software update. Users have the option to customize the side button through the Settings menu, choosing either to launch Gemini or to stick with Bixby.

Furthermore, the update introduces enhanced cross-app functionality, enabling seamless integration with applications such as Calendar, Notes, Reminder, and Clock. Users can execute tasks within these apps using voice commands through Gemini.

Samsung Expands AI Access for Galaxy A-Series

Recently, Samsung announced that the capability to activate the AI assistant via the side button would be implemented in select Galaxy A series devices, including the Galaxy A56, Galaxy A36, and Galaxy A26, starting in early May. This enhancement aligns with Samsung’s efforts to make AI tools more accessible to a broader audience, a feature that was previously limited to the Galaxy S series. The Gemini integration was first presented as a highlight during the launch of the Galaxy S25 series in January.

The latest update is expected to be delivered automatically to eligible Galaxy A56, Galaxy A36, and Galaxy A26 devices. Users can manually check for the update by navigating to Settings > Software update > Download and Install.
