At the recent Mobile World Congress (MWC 2025), Samsung unveiled the Flex Gaming Console, a concept for a foldable gaming device. Now, new insights from a design patent have unveiled another intriguing foldable concept from the South Korean tech giant. This patent showcases a handheld gaming console that features a display capable of extending into a significantly larger screen. The device is illustrated in several adaptable configurations and includes controls reminiscent of popular gaming controllers.
Design Features of Samsung’s Foldable Handheld Console
The design patent (via 91Mobiles) details numerous illustrations of a handheld gaming console equipped with a foldable display. Initial images suggest a clamshell-style design, with controllers positioned on either side of the device. Additional illustrations display the console in its closed form (Fig. 2) and highlight the hinge with shoulder buttons (Fig. 3).

Further illustrations depict the right (Fig. 5) and left sides (Fig. 7) of the handheld device, showcasing its slim profile. Figure 6 provides a top-down view, revealing two thumb sticks, directional buttons, and shoulder buttons placed at the top of the console.
The subsequent set of images (Fig. 9 – Fig. 12) presents the gaming device with its display fully extended, displaying no visible crease. A top-down perspective (Fig. 13) shows the display in its complete form, while another image reveals the lower part of the device, which does not seem to include any display components.
The final illustration (Fig. 15) depicts the device with its display angled, suggesting a possible usage scenario. It remains uncertain whether the larger screen will mirror the game display or if the lower segment will function as a secondary screen for additional information.
Similar to the Flex Gaming Console concept, Samsung has not confirmed any plans to produce a device based on this newly revealed design. While the company has released the Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold smartphones, details regarding their entry into the foldable gaming handheld market remain unannounced.
