On Tuesday, Samsung unveiled enhanced features for its Sketch to Image tool, set to debut with the forthcoming Galaxy S25 series. The South Korean technology leader aims to broaden its artificial intelligence capabilities this year as part of the One UI 7 operating system, which the company refers to as its “first integrated AI platform.” Previously, Samsung hinted at new functionalities for its virtual assistant Bixby, and it has now confirmed that Sketch to Image will include multimodal capabilities, allowing users to create images through text prompts.
New AI Features Coming to Samsung’s Sketch to Image
The company showcased the enhanced features of Sketch to Image in a recent newsroom post, outlining what users can expect with the Galaxy S25 series. Originally launched with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 last year, the feature has since been extended to numerous other smartphones and tablets.
Currently, Sketch to Image serves as a helpful tool for refining user sketches with the assistance of AI. Users can draft simple outlines—for instance, a rough image of a house—and the tool will recognize the intention and enhance it to resemble an artist’s rendering. Additionally, the AI can produce images in various styles.
With the introduction of One UI 7, Samsung plans to integrate Sketch to Image into Drawing Assist and incorporate new features. The addition of multimodal capabilities allows users to sketch an object and then input a text prompt to alter the image into a new concept. For example, users can draw a cat and type “spacesuit” to create images of a cat donned in a spacesuit.
Users can be specific in their descriptions to obtain more detailed outcomes. This was a significant upgrade, as previous iterations of the tool only enhanced existing sketches. Samsung noted that the new version enables users to turn their creative visions into reality, making it easier to design even complex images.
The updated Sketch to Image will accommodate both text and voice prompts for user convenience. It will maintain compatibility with both the S Pen and touch input, allowing for greater flexibility beyond accessory limitations.
