Samsung is gearing up to unveil the next iteration of its Bixby virtual assistant with the forthcoming Samsung Galaxy S25 series. The South Korean tech powerhouse first unveiled an AI-enhanced version of Bixby earlier this year in China, specifically tied to the Galaxy W25 and Galaxy W25 Flip models. However, this advanced version has yet to make an appearance in markets outside of China. Reports indicate that Samsung initially planned to integrate these new functionalities into the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6, but scheduling conflicts thwarted those efforts.
Samsung Could Introduce AI-Powered Bixby With One UI 7
According to a report by ET News, the Galaxy S25 series is set to launch early next year and will feature the globally released AI-enhanced Bixby. The report cites insiders who indicate that the upgraded voice assistant will leverage a large language model (LLM), allowing it to perform several advanced tasks that its current iteration cannot.
Some of these new features have already been showcased. The Samsung Galaxy W25 series in China highlights a significantly improved understanding of natural language commands, along with the ability to handle complex instructions that involve multiple tasks.
Samsung has noted that the new Bixby can also interpret ambiguous questions by taking user behavior and contextual cues into account. For instance, if a user asks, “How to get there?”, the AI can ascertain the user’s location and time, facilitating navigation from their office to their home.
Additionally, the Chinese version of Bixby boasts the capability to generate text and fetch videos from the Internet. It can translate web pages and offers the ability to export the generated content into various Microsoft Office formats, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
This new iteration of Bixby is also equipped with a revamped user interface that allows it to be displayed in a full-screen format. Much like the Gemini AI assistant, it features a text input field at the bottom and a streamlined layout. Users can engage with Samsung’s virtual assistant through both text and voice commands, and it can be launched from any screen and overlay any application on the smartphone.
Notably, in addition to the W25 series, the AI-driven Bixby has also been introduced in Samsung’s Bespoke AI home appliances. However, the functionalities available on these devices are limited and highly tailored to the specific device capabilities.
