Samsung is in the process of developing a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature that will enable users to transform images into short videos. According to a source familiar with the matter, the South Korean technology firm is working on an AI-driven image-to-video functionality that can create brief videos lasting only a few seconds from any photo stored in a user’s gallery. While specific details remain scarce, it is anticipated that this feature will be integrated into the company’s Galaxy AI suite and may debut alongside the upcoming One UI 8.0 operating system update in the near future.

In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), industry tipster PandaFlash revealed that Samsung is set to introduce an image-to-video AI feature in its forthcoming smartphones. The tipster noted that this capability would allow users to generate short videos from individual images. However, further information has not yet been disclosed.

This announcement follows closely the news from Honor, who unveiled that their upcoming 400 series phones will include an image-to-video tool capable of producing five-second videos from still images. Additionally, TikTok has introduced a similar feature named AI Alive.

It is important to note that both features primarily animate still images in various styles, rather than creating original, abstract videos based on the source image. Thus, these tools serve more as enhancements rather than full generative capabilities.

Honor has indicated that its AI functionality will utilize Google’s Veo 2 video generation model. Samsung may potentially adopt this same technology for its own image-to-video feature, particularly following their collaboration with Google on the Circle to Search feature for the Galaxy S24 series, which was announced in 2024.

The introduction of Samsung’s AI video generation tool will enhance the diverse capabilities of the Galaxy AI suite, which currently includes tools that can create images from text prompts or existing images. Up to this point, however, there have been no video generation options within this suite. The unnamed feature is believed to be a component of the anticipated One UI 8.0 update.

Additionally, reports suggest that Samsung is also developing an AI-powered video summarization tool, designed to produce text summaries of online videos. This new functionality is expected to be compatible with popular platforms like YouTube and Vimeo.
