The Samsung Galaxy S25 series made its debut in January, and the recent introduction of the Galaxy S25 Edge highlights the company’s commitment to developing sleek smartphones. Meanwhile, Apple is anticipated to join the trend of slim devices later this year with the introduction of the iPhone 17 Air. A recent report indicates that Samsung is planning to further reduce the size of the camera modules in its forthcoming Galaxy S26 series.

Samsung Plans Thinner Camera Modules for Galaxy S26 Series

According to a report from the Korean outlet The Elec, Samsung is exploring a new “inkjet printing” technique aimed at decreasing the thickness of the lens modules in the upcoming Galaxy S26 series smartphones. Currently, camera modules incorporate films between lenses to counteract light reflection and overlap. Instead of this traditional approach, the company’s Electro-Mechanics division is considering the use of matte ink between lens rib surfaces created through inkjet printing.

This innovative method may offer advantages over the conventional film application by allowing for a closer placement of the lenses, which is likely to result in a slimmer lens module. Notably, Samsung Electro-Mechanics filed a patent for this technology back in 2018.

The camera module is typically the bulkiest component of a flagship smartphone. Therefore, reducing its dimensions may contribute to a more streamlined overall design. The implementation of this new technique is expected to debut in the Galaxy S26 series, which will reportedly include the standard Galaxy S26, S26+, S26 Edge, and S26 Ultra models.

The Galaxy S25 Edge, launched earlier this month, emphasizes a thin design, measuring 5.8mm in thickness and weighing 163 grams.

In addition to Samsung, various smartphone manufacturers are also pursuing the creation of significantly thinner models than the average flagship devices available today. Apple’s iPhone 17 Air is set to be unveiled in September, boasting a slimmed-down profile, while Infinix is preparing to launch the Hot 60 Pro+, touted to be the world’s slimmest curved display phone at just 5.95mm thick.
