Samsung is said to be in the process of developing a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature that transforms still images into short videos. According to a source, the South Korean technology company is creating an AI-driven image-to-video capability that allows users to convert any photograph from their gallery into a video lasting just a few seconds. While specific details about the feature have not been disclosed, it is expected to be included in the upcoming Galaxy AI suite and may debut with the One UI 8.0 operating system update in the near future.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), leaker PandaFlash revealed that Samsung is working on this image-to-video functionality for future smartphone releases. The leaker added that the feature utilizes a single image as its reference to produce a brief video. However, further specifics have not been provided.
This announcement follows closely after Honor announced that its new 400 series smartphones will include a similar image-to-video tool capable of generating videos up to five seconds in length using still images. Additionally, TikTok has introduced a comparable feature called AI Alive.
It is important to note that both Honor’s and TikTok’s features focus on animating existing images rather than producing entirely new creative video content based on the image. This suggests that the technology functions more as an enhancement tool rather than a purely generative one.
Honor indicated that its AI feature would be powered by Google’s Veo 2 video generation model. It is speculated that Samsung might also utilize this technology for its image-to-video offering. In 2024, Samsung collaborated with Google to incorporate the Circle to Search feature in the Galaxy S24 series.
The introduction of Samsung’s AI-driven video generation tool would enhance the multimodal capabilities of the Galaxy AI suite, which already offers functions for generating images from text prompts or image inputs. However, video generation tools have yet to be part of this collection. This upcoming feature is anticipated to be part of the One UI 8.0 update.
Furthermore, reports suggest that Samsung is also developing an AI-powered video summarization tool. This tool is expected to create text summaries of online videos and is rumored to be compatible with platforms such as YouTube and Vimeo.
