Samsung is reportedly close to finalizing a significant agreement with Perplexity that would see the artificial intelligence (AI) app preinstalled on its devices. The forthcoming Galaxy S26 series smartphones are expected to be the first to feature the Perplexity AI application alongside its newly introduced AI assistant right out of the box. This extensive deal may also include provisions for Samsung to incorporate its web browser and Bixby digital assistant with the enhanced search functionalities offered by Perplexity. Additionally, the South Korean technology giant is contemplating an investment in the AI company during its next funding round.
Samsung and Perplexity Nearing a Major AI-Focused Deal
According to a report from Bloomberg, Samsung and Perplexity have engaged in numerous discussions about a comprehensive AI partnership recently. Sources familiar with the talks indicated that Samsung plans to preload the Perplexity application and AI assistant on its upcoming devices. Earlier reports suggested that conversations between the two companies regarding an AI collaboration initiated back in April.
Furthermore, there are ongoing discussions concerning the development of an AI-powered operating system and an application designed for building AI agents. This application is expected to enable users to create AI agents capable of utilizing Perplexity’s services in conjunction with other AI assistants.
As the agreement approaches completion, it may also lead to the integration of Perplexity’s search engine into Samsung’s web browser. Moreover, the plan could include the incorporation of the startup’s capabilities into Bixby, Samsung’s virtual assistant.
