Samsung is reportedly working on extending a camera feature, first introduced with the Galaxy S25 Edge, to the entire Galaxy S25 flagship range. A source has indicated that this feature may allow the front-facing selfie camera across all models in the series to record LOG (logarithmic footage) videos. This capability would enable users to capture a broader dynamic range, preserving detail in both very dark and extremely bright areas of a scene.
LOG Video Recording on Samsung Galaxy S25 Series
In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), tipster IposDev provided insights into Samsung’s plans for implementing LOG video recording on the front cameras of the Galaxy S25 models. The shared screenshots reveal a LOG option prominently placed in the camera user interface alongside the existing HDR feature.
According to the leak, users will be able to record in the LOG format at Ultra HD (4K) resolution and 60 frames per second. The user interface is also expected to include a histogram, which displays the distribution of brightness and tonal values of the current scene visible in the camera viewfinder. The LOG format feature is anticipated to be available in both Video and Pro Video modes.
It is worth noting that while the Galaxy S25 Edge has brought LOG video recording capabilities to its front-facing camera, other models within the Galaxy S25 lineup, such as the Galaxy S25 Ultra, currently support this feature only on the rear cameras. Samsung’s implementation of LOG mode utilizes a 10-bit HEVC codec, which is designed to enhance compatibility with various codecs and improve storage efficiency.
According to the tech giant, the LOG video recording format retains a greater amount of image data compared to traditional filming methods, allowing for more flexibility in post-production. This format can reduce overall production time, offering editors enhanced control over colors, shadows, highlights, tones, and other aspects of the captured footage.
