Samsung is gearing up for the release of its inaugural tri-fold smartphone, tentatively referred to as the Samsung G Fold. The tech giant first showcased hints of the multi-folding device during its Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event in January, leading to speculation about its potential launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 at the recent summer Galaxy Unpacked event. However, this did not materialize. Recent reports indicate that Samsung Mobile Chief TM Roh has provided clarity regarding the launch timeline for the tri-fold phone.
Launch Timeline for Samsung’s Tri-Fold Smartphone
According to a report from The Korea Times, TM Roh has announced that Samsung is targeting the end of this year for the launch of its first tri-fold smartphone. “We are working diligently on a tri-fold smartphone with the aim of launching it at the end of this year,” Roh was quoted as saying.
He underscored the company’s commitment to enhancing the product’s functionality and user experience. While the official name remains undecided, Roh indicated that a final decision will come soon as the product approaches completion. The head of Samsung’s smartphone division also noted that the company plans to explore various innovative form factors in the future to improve AI-driven user experiences.
Additionally, an unnamed Samsung executive, as reported by Android Authority, mentioned that the tri-fold smartphone is entering mass production. The executive indicated that Samsung is currently assessing consumer interest in this new foldable design.
The concept of the tri-fold was initially presented briefly during the Galaxy Unpacked event in January. As it stands, Huawei’s Mate XT holds the title of the only commercially available tri-fold smartphone in the market.
Initially anticipated to launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, recent whispers suggest that Samsung’s tri-fold may be restricted to markets in China and South Korea. The device is rumored to fold inwards, featuring a 9.96-inch display when fully expanded, and a 6.54-inch display when folded. Speculations also suggest the inclusion of a silicon-carbon battery in its design.
