This latest offering comes after a period during which the company hesitated to fully embrace the revival of analog synthesis that has characterized the last decade. The TR-1000 stands apart from its predecessors, which relied on digital technologies, by focusing instead on the authentic analog sounds reminiscent of legendary models like the TR-808 and TR-909.
The TR-1000 promises a true analog experience by incorporating 16 recreated sound circuits from both the 808 and 909. Beyond these classic sounds, it offers a variety of modern sound-shaping features and sequencing functions. Users can expect a blend of authentic analog voices, digital ACB sounds, FM percussion, and PCM samples, as well as advanced sampling tools for time-stretching and manipulating drum loops. Essentially, this device is designed to cover virtually every percussive sound imaginable, all housed in a robust and upscale-looking gray casing.
Roland has further committed to analog fidelity by integrating a stereo analog filter and drive section to enhance sound grit and build tension. The face of the TR-1000 features numerous knobs, buttons, and faders, indicating that users will spend less time navigating complex menus commonly found in many contemporary Roland products. While it does include features that accommodate live performance, its substantial design seems better suited for studio environments.
However, potential buyers should be prepared to make a significant investment, as the TR-1000 is priced at $2,699.99. This high cost may not appeal to casual users, but it is worth noting that this price tag is about half of what one would pay for an original TR-808 or TR-909 on the vintage market, positioning the TR-1000 as a potentially attractive alternative.
