Reed Hastings, the chairman, co-founder, and former CEO of Netflix, is joining the board of directors at Anthropic.
In its announcement, Anthropic noted that Hastings has a wealth of experience, having played a pivotal role in transforming Netflix into a leading global entertainment entity. He also serves on the boards of esteemed companies such as Facebook, Microsoft, and Bloomberg.
The company highlighted Hastings’ practical insight, emphasizing his dual role in developing Netflix as an international platform and his significant investments in education reform and digital infrastructure in emerging markets. This background equips him with a distinct understanding of how technology can be leveraged for broader societal benefit from the outset.
In a statement, Hastings expressed optimism about the potential advantages of artificial intelligence for humanity, while acknowledging its associated economic, social, and safety challenges. “I’m joining Anthropic’s board because I believe in their approach to AI development, and to help humanity progress,” he stated.
Anthropic’s board includes several key figures, including CEO Dario Amodei, president Daniela Amodei, Yasmin Razavi, and Jay Kreps. The company has recently launched its Claude 4 AI models.
Hastings stepped down as co-CEO of Netflix in 2023.
