On Tuesday, Xiaomi’s sub-brand, Redmi, introduced the Redmi A5 in India, marking its latest entry into the budget smartphone market. This new 4G device is powered by an octa-core Unisoc T7250 processor and comes equipped with a robust 5,200mAh battery. The Redmi A5 showcases a dual rear camera setup with a 32-megapixel primary sensor and features a striking 6.88-inch display that supports a 120Hz refresh rate along with a waterdrop notch design. Earlier this month, the Redmi A5 was launched in select international markets.
Pricing Details for Redmi A5 in India
The Redmi A5 is available in India with a price tag of Rs. 6,499 for the 3GB RAM + 64GB storage variant. The 4GB RAM + 128GB storage version is priced at Rs. 7,499. Customers can choose from three colors: Jaisalmer Gold, Just Black, and Pondicherry Blue. Starting tomorrow, the smartphone will be up for grabs on Flipkart and the official Xiaomi India website at 12 pm IST.
In comparison, the 4GB RAM + 128GB storage model of the Redmi A5 is priced at IDR 11,99,000 (approximately Rs. 6,100) in Indonesia. Additionally, the 5G variant of the Redmi A4 was released at Rs. 8,499 for the 4GB + 64GB configuration.
Specifications of the Redmi A5
The Redmi A5 operates on Android 15 (Go Edition) and features a 6.88-inch HD+ display with a resolution of 720×1,640 pixels, supporting a 120Hz refresh rate and a touch sampling rate of up to 240Hz. The display has received TÜV Rheinland certification for eye protection. It is powered by the Unisoc T7250 chipset and comes with 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of eMMC 5.1 storage, which can be expanded up to 2TB via a microSD card. Furthermore, users can virtually expand the available memory by an additional 8GB.
The dual rear camera system includes a 32-megapixel primary sensor alongside a secondary sensor whose specifications have not been disclosed. For selfies and video calls, the device is equipped with an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. The smartphone also features an IP52-rated design for added durability.
In terms of connectivity, the Redmi A5 supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a USB Type-C port, and retains a 3.5mm headphone jack. It offers a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and includes an AI-powered face unlock feature for enhanced security.
With a substantial 5,200mAh battery, the Redmi A5 supports 15W wired charging. The phone’s dimensions are 171.7 x 77.8 x 8.26mm, and it weighs 193g, providing a solid balance of performance and portability.
