In the Q2 investors call, CEO Steve Huffman detailed the upcoming testing of AI-enhanced search results. The technology will not only summarize content but also offer recommendations based on user searches. Huffman emphasized the platform’s capabilities, noting that users conduct over 1 billion search queries each month.
Additionally, Huffman praised Reddit’s AI-centered translation feature, pointing out that France has become one of the “fastest growing countries” taking advantage of this tool. Plans are in place to expand machine translation support to include German, Spanish, and Portuguese languages in the near future.
This announcement follows Reddit’s recent acquisition of Memorable AI, a startup focused on utilizing generative AI to enhance advertisement effectiveness. This startup assists advertisers in identifying the best text, images, and videos to improve their campaigns.
In recent months, Reddit has also established partnerships with major technology firms, including Google and OpenAI, to integrate AI technologies and develop new features for its users. The partnership with Google, reportedly worth around $60 million (approximately Rs. 500 crore) annually, allows the search giant to use Reddit’s content for training its AI models.
Meanwhile, OpenAI has gained access to Reddit’s Data API to source real-time content for ChatGPT and other applications. In return, Reddit anticipates utilizing OpenAI’s large language models (LLMs) to enhance its own AI features on the platform.
