Reddit has rolled out a series of new features aimed at enhancing user engagement and content discovery. The updates include the introduction of a search function within post comments, a dedicated video feed, and a more streamlined user interface. Users can now search for specific words or phrases in the comments section by accessing a search lens located at the top of the page. Additionally, the platform has added Read and Watch feeds, reminiscent of Instagram Reels and TikTok, for improved content consumption.
In a blog post outlining these updates, Reddit emphasized its commitment to simplifying the user experience. The enhancements are designed to make it easier for users to discover, join, and contribute to various communities, known as subreddits. Among the new features is the option to view posts in a specific Read feed alongside a Watch feed for vertical video content.
Furthermore, Reddit has introduced a refined, decluttered interface aimed at improving overall user experience. The company also announced plans to implement further updates, including enhancements to its video player, chat functionalities, new shopfront features, and an updated web platform.
Pali Bhat, Reddit’s Chief Product Officer, mentioned that both new and existing users will benefit from a more enriching experience on the platform, with greater opportunities to discover interesting content and communities in an organized setting.
Last year, Reddit made headlines by enabling the ability to comment using GIFs, a feature initially exclusive to subscribers of the Powerups community subscription service. After discontinuing Powerups, which offered certain perks, Reddit opened up GIF commenting to all safe-for-work (SFW) subreddits, while newly created SFW communities now need to opt out if they wish to disable this feature.
