There are indications that Red Dead Redemption 2 may soon be available on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, potentially launching this year. The popular action-adventure game from Rockstar Games, which debuted on PS4 and Xbox One in 2018, is expected to join an extensive lineup of third-party titles slated for release on the new console in 2025. This version could also be accompanied by a long-awaited next-generation upgrade for the game on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Set for Switch 2 Launch
This information was primarily reported by Gamereactor, which stated in a recent article that a port of Red Dead Redemption 2 for the Switch 2 could be released within the year. The publication referenced sources familiar with Rockstar’s plans and suggested that a next-gen patch might also be in the pipeline for PS5 and Xbox Series S/X.
According to the report, the upgrade for console players might launch concurrently with the Nintendo Switch 2 edition or follow shortly after. This anticipated patch is expected to enhance performance and visuals on the latest gaming consoles.
Currently, Red Dead Redemption 2 is limited to 30 frames per second on consoles, lacking a dedicated application for both PS5 and Xbox Series S/X. Many fans of the franchise have been advocating for a next-gen patch to elevate the performance on more current hardware. In contrast, the PC version released in 2019 features an uncapped frame rate.
Neither Rockstar Games nor Nintendo has provided any official comments regarding the potential introduction of Red Dead Redemption 2 to the Switch 2.
A variety of well-known third-party games have already been confirmed for the Nintendo Switch 2, including titles like Star Wars Outlaws, Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy, Split Fiction, and Elden Ring, among others.
Developers and publishers have expressed their commitment to supporting the Switch 2 platform in the future. Last month, Xbox chief Phil Spencer noted that Microsoft will continue to provide first-party games for the new console. Additionally, Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two, has confirmed four of its titles for Nintendo’s upcoming console, which include Civilization VII, Borderlands 4, and new installments in the WWE 2K and NBA 2K franchises.
