Qualcomm has introduced a new lineup of Snapdragon G series processors tailored for handheld gaming consoles, headlined by the high-performance Snapdragon G3 Gen 3. This chip boasts compatibility with 144Hz Quad HD+ displays and integrates advanced features such as ray tracing and Unreal Engine 5’s Lumen system. Complementing this flagship offering, the Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 is geared towards midrange devices, supporting Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, while the entry-level Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 provides 1080p gaming at 120fps, aimed at cloud gaming solutions.
Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 Specifications
The Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 is an octa-core chipset featuring a prime core, five performance cores, and two efficiency cores. It includes an Adreno A32 GPU, marking it as the first Snapdragon G series processor to support ray tracing and Lumen from Unreal Engine 5.

Manufacturers utilizing the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 can equip their devices with displays capable of reaching up to 144Hz in Quad HD+. The chipset also supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity. Qualcomm claims the G3 Gen 3 enhances performance significantly, boasting improvements of 30% in GPU performance compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon G3x Gen 2.

The Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 and Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 are also octa-core chips, designed for midrange and entry-level consoles, respectively. The Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 contains one fewer performance core and an extra efficiency core, featuring an Adreno A22 GPU. In contrast, the Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 is equipped with two performance cores and six efficiency cores, along with an Adreno A12 GPU.

Devices powered by the Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 can also support 144Hz Quad HD+ displays, while the entry-level Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 allows for 1080p displays with a 120Hz refresh rate. Similar to the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3, the Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 offers Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, while the G1 Gen 2 provides Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1.

According to Qualcomm, upcoming handheld gaming consoles from brands such as Ayaneo, OneXSugar, and Retroid Pocket featuring these new chipsets are set to launch in the near future. Both the Ayaneo Pocket S2 and the OneXSugar Sugar 1 will be powered by the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3, while the Retroid Pocket Classic is confirmed to utilize the Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 processor.
