Sony has announced that PlayStation 5 (PS5) users will soon be able to join Discord voice chats directly from their consoles. While the company introduced Discord integration in a previous update last year, players needed to establish the connection via a PC or mobile device. The new functionality allows for a seamless transition into Discord voice chats directly on the PS5.
The official announcement was made via a PlayStation Blog, detailing that this feature will be rolled out gradually to users over the coming weeks.
Joining Discord Voice Chats on PS5
To access Discord voice chat on the PS5, players should navigate to the Game Base within the Control Center of the console, select the Discord tab, and choose the desired Discord server or direct message group to join.
Once there, players can select their voice channel, which will display additional information about participants already engaged in conversation. Moreover, PS5 users will receive notifications on their console whenever a Discord contact attempts to call them, facilitating immediate access to the call.
The rollout of Discord voice chat will commence in Japan and Asia, followed by Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East, and the Americas over the coming weeks. To utilize this feature, users must ensure their PS5 is updated with the latest system software and that their PlayStation Network (PSN) and Discord accounts are linked.
New Profile Sharing Feature for PS5
In addition to Discord integration, Sony also unveiled a new profile sharing feature for PlayStation Network. This allows players to share their PSN profiles through any messaging or social media applications. Both the PS5 and the PlayStation app will support this feature, enabling users to create a shareable link or QR code through the “Share Profile” option. Recipients can then add the profile owner as a PSN friend after accessing the link or scanning the code. This Share Profile feature is expected to become available next week.
