Sony has announced a significant update for the PS5 system, introducing a feature that empowers DualSense controllers to connect to multiple devices simultaneously. Currently available to beta testers, the full rollout is anticipated for all users in the upcoming months. Additionally, the company has unveiled a new Power Saver mode designed for PS5 games, which aims to enhance energy efficiency by reducing performance on compatible titles. This Power Saver mode will not be included in the beta and will be launched at a later date.
PS5 System Update for Beta Testers
The latest enhancements to the PS5 were disclosed on the PlayStation Blog on Wednesday. The beta update is currently accessible to invited participants in regions including the US, Canada, Japan, the UK, Germany, and France.
This update enhances the DualSense wireless controllers and the DualSense Edge controllers, allowing them to be paired with multiple devices. Previously, users had to reconnect their PS5 controller each time they wanted to connect to a different device, such as a PC, Mac, or smartphone.
With the new update, users can connect their controllers to up to four devices concurrently and switch between them effortlessly without the need to initiate a new pairing session.

Instructions for Multi-Device Pairing
To initiate pairing, users must first disconnect any USB cables attached to the controller. It is important to ensure that the light bar and player indicator on the controller are turned off; if they are not, users can press and hold the PS button to deactivate them.
To connect to multiple devices, users should press the PS button in conjunction with one of the four action buttons (triangle, circle, cross, square) for more than five seconds until the light bar and player indicator flash twice. The action button chosen corresponds to one of the four available pairing slots.
Afterward, users need to activate Bluetooth on their desired device and pair the controller as a new Bluetooth device once it is detected. Upon successful connection, the light bar will illuminate, and the player indicator light will blink to indicate the selected slot number.
Switching between paired devices can be accomplished by pressing the PS button along with the designated action button, even if the controller is powered off. The triangle button corresponds to the first slot, the circle button to the second, the cross button to the third, and the square button to the fourth.
This feature is expected to be available to all users worldwide in the upcoming months.
Introduction of PS5 Power Saver Mode
In another development, Sony introduced a forthcoming Power Saver mode for the PS5, reaffirming its commitment to minimizing the environmental impact of its devices. Once implemented, this feature will include a Power Saver option in the PS5 settings menu, which will “scale back performance” on supported PS5 games, thereby reducing energy consumption.
The company plans to provide additional information regarding this feature, including a list of supported games and projected energy savings, as the launch date approaches.
