Sony has rolled out a new system software update for the PlayStation 5, introducing enhancements to audio clarity on the DualSense controller, alongside fresh features for Parties and Share Screen. The latest update, designated version 9.00, also provides users with the option to modify the brightness of the power indicator on the console. PlayStation users can expect to receive a notification regarding the update when they power on their consoles.
Based on the official feature list, the update elevates the volume of the controller speakers in both the DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers, enhancing clarity for in-game sounds and voice chat. Additionally, Sony has introduced a new AI machine-learning model that aims to enhance microphone input by filtering out background noise, such as button clicks and game sounds, thereby improving voice chat quality.
With this update, users can now adjust the brightness of the PS5’s power indicator. The console features two vertical light indicators on its front, which illuminate in various colors to indicate the operational status of the PS5 — whether it is on, off, in rest mode, or overheating. These lights can be particularly bright in low-light conditions. After updating to system software version 9.00, players can navigate to Settings > System > Beep and Light, and select Brightness to customize their preferences.
The update also introduces new functionalities for Parties and Share Screen, allowing users to interact with pointers and emoji reactions. Participants accessing a host’s shared screen can now use emoji reactions and pinpoint specific items or locations in the game using a ping option. To activate these features, users must enable Viewer Interactions in the Share Screen settings.
Moreover, this update includes support for Unicode 15.1 emoji and brings enhancements to the overall performance and stability of the system software. The patch also updates the device software for the DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers, PlayStation VR2 headset, PS VR2 Sense controllers, and Access controller.
