Ubisoft announced a tentative release window for the highly anticipated remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time during its Forward event on Monday, indicating that the game will be launched sometime in 2026. The company confirmed that the remake has successfully completed its pre-production phase and is moving into full production. This development comes after a challenging production history for the title, which was first revealed to the public in 2020. Additionally, updates on Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown and the recently released The Rogue Prince of Persia were shared at the event.
Teaser for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake
During the Ubisoft Forward presentation, a new teaser for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake was unveiled, solidifying its expected release in 2026. Though the game has officially entered full production, no further details were disclosed at this time. Originally announced in 2020, the remake has faced several delays throughout its development journey.
Initially developed by Ubisoft Pune and Mumbai, the project was transferred to Ubisoft Montreal in 2022. Additional development support is now being provided by Ubisoft Toronto, Ubisoft Bucharest, Ubisoft Pune, and E-Studio. The original Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time debuted in 2003 and has since become a benchmark title within the action-adventure gaming genre.
Updates for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
During the event, Ubisoft also shared new developments concerning the Prince of Persia franchise, including free updates for both Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown and The Rogue Prince of Persia. A new free update titled “Divine Trials” for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is now available, introducing 22 expert challenges designed to test players’ skills.
“Players can now access the Hall of Memorials through a special door in the Haven, where they can select from four sets of challenges,” Ubisoft stated in an official release. “These challenges vary in difficulty and incorporate unique exotic conditions.” Various gameplay elements such as platforming tasks, puzzles, combat trials, and redesigned boss encounters are included in the update.
Players will unlock trials as they progress and acquire new powers, while those who have already completed certain trials will gain immediate access to all challenges in their existing saves, according to Ubisoft. Successful players will be rewarded with four new amulets and outfits after defeating the revitalized bosses at the end of each set of challenges.
The publisher also offered a sneak peek at the forthcoming story DLC for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, titled “Mask of Darkness,” which is set to launch on all platforms in September 2024.
The Rogue Prince of Persia Update
The recently released title, The Rogue Prince of Persia, received its first major update during the Ubisoft Forward conference. Dubbed “The Temple of Fire,” this update is aimed at the roguelite platformer currently in Early Access. It incorporates a new biome with additional enemies, traps, and traversal challenges. Two new character types, the Shielded Warrior and Duellist, along with a new weapon, the Flaming Censers, have also been introduced.
“This update introduces the Meta Progression Skill Tree, enabling players to utilize Spirit Glimmers to unlock enduring improvements,” said Ubisoft. The Temple of Fire update marks the initial significant content expansion for the game, with more updates planned throughout its Early Access phase leading up to the official 1.0 launch.
