PlayStation has revealed that it will host its first State of Play event of the year on January 31. Scheduled to be a 40-minute showcase, the event will provide in-depth previews of upcoming titles, including Shift Up’s action-adventure game Stellar Blade and Team Ninja’s action-RPG Rise of the Ronin, both set to be released on the PS5 within the year. A total of over 15 games will be featured, offering insights into PS5 and PS VR2 titles planned for release in 2024 and beyond. The event will be streamed live on PlayStation’s YouTube, Twitch, and TikTok channels, beginning at 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 10pm GMT, or 3:30am on Thursday in India.
Announcement details for the 2024 State of Play showcase were shared on the PlayStation blog on Monday. Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios, commented, “The broadcast will exceed 40 minutes and will include contributions from some of the most acclaimed talents in the gaming industry. Among various updates, we’re excited to present extended previews of Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin, both of which are anticipated on PS5 this year.”
While detailed information regarding the other games included in the presentation remains scarce, the extended duration of the event hints at a range of announcements and reveals. Notable leaker Billbil-Kun has suggested that a new announcement for Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding 2, originally unveiled at The Game Awards 2022, could be imminent. Additionally, the leaker mentioned in a recent Dealabs report that a PlayStation exclusive, Concorde, will soon be announced. Both titles are likely candidates to be featured during the showcase.
Nick Baker from XboxEra also shared insights on X Monday, hinting at forthcoming updates for Rise of the Ronin, Death Stranding 2, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, a new Sonic game, the Silent Hill 2 remake, an Until Dawn remaster, and a new VR title in the Metro series.
On the 31st (roughly), Ronins will Rise, we’ll die stranded, have a rebirth and Kojima will fulfil his dream. Sonic will live in the shadow of his generation while the hills will remain silent until the dawn when you’ll need to catch the metro. Just don’t be a Judas about it.

The last State of Play event took place in September, showcasing gameplay content for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, along with updates on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Foamstars, Helldivers 2, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and more.
Both Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin have previously received trailers outlining their gameplay and narrative elements. The upcoming event may solidify a release date for Stellar Blade, while Rise of the Ronin is expected to launch on March 22.
