Sony is set to discontinue its PlayStation Stars loyalty initiative, which incentivized users for engaging with games and completing various activities on its platform. The program is currently not accepting new members and will officially conclude on November 2, 2026. Existing members of PlayStation Stars will still have the chance to earn digital collectibles and loyalty points until July 23, 2025, after which all program rewards and benefits will cease.

The Conclusion of PlayStation Stars

Introduced in 2022 in select markets, PlayStation Stars allowed players to collect digital items as part of an engaging rewards system. Sony has indicated that it intends to analyze the insights gained from this program as it approaches its closure.

In a statement on the PlayStation Blog, the company noted, “Since launching the program, we’ve learned a lot from evaluating the types of activities our players respond best to, and as a company, we are always evolving with player and industry trends.”

Furthermore, the company expressed, “Through this evaluation, we have decided to refocus our efforts and will be winding down the current version of PlayStation Stars. We will continue to evaluate our key findings from this program and are looking into ways to build upon these learnings.”

Timeline for the PlayStation Stars Shutdown

Although the loyalty program is no longer taking on new members, current members can still accrue digital collectibles, points, and enhance their status until July 23, 2025. Following this date, all new campaigns and rewards will be discontinued.

Members may also redeem their accumulated points until they expire, with the program officially concluding on November 2, 2026. Sony has emphasized that should any existing PlayStation Stars member decide to cancel their membership, rejoining will not be an option and all earned points will be forfeited, though digital collectibles will remain accessible.

“We want to thank all of our players for supporting PlayStation Stars since the launch in 2022. As we explore new ways to evolve our loyalty program efforts for the future, we’ll continue to celebrate all of our players through the various community activities we have planned,” Sony stated.

The PlayStation Stars program required users to have an active PSN account for free enrollment and rewarded engagement through diverse campaigns, such as playing games or achieving specific trophies. The program could be accessed via the PlayStation App on both iOS and Android devices.

Rewards for participation included digital collectibles and loyalty points, which could be exchanged for various items in a catalog featuring options like PSN wallet funds, digital collectibles, and select PlayStation Store offerings.

Historically, Sony has launched several community-focused initiatives for PlayStation users. Earlier this year, the company introduced a unified beta testing program for PS5 and PC games, further integrating its community engagement strategies.
