Sony has officially announced the arrival of the PlayStation Portal in India, a handheld device designed for game streaming that allows users to play their PS5 games remotely. This launch comes after the device’s initial rollout in the United States and other global markets late last year.

The PlayStation Portal operates by streaming PS5 games rather than running them natively. It provides players with console-quality controls over a Wi-Fi connection, featuring an eight-inch LCD screen that incorporates DualSense wireless controller capabilities, including haptic feedback and adaptive triggers for supported titles.

PlayStation Portal Pricing and Availability in India

The PlayStation Portal is set at a price of Rs. 18,999 in the Indian market. The device will launch in a single white color variant and will be available for purchase from various retailers, including Sony Centres, Amazon, Flipkart, Croma, Reliance, Vijay Sales, Blinkit, and additional participating outlets, starting August 3.

Specifications and Features of the PlayStation Portal

The PlayStation Portal features an eight-inch LCD display with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 60Hz. Users can expect to run PS4 and PS5 games installed on the console at up to 60 frames per second in full HD. The screen is designed with touch-enabled zones on both the left and right sides.

In terms of connectivity, the PlayStation Portal is equipped with a USB Type-C port for charging, a 3.5mm headphone jack, Sony’s proprietary PS Link feature, and Wi-Fi 5. However, it lacks Bluetooth connectivity.

Although the PlayStation Portal cannot directly run games, it does allow users to stream their PS5 library over a home Wi-Fi connection. This feature means players can engage with their PS5 games even if someone else is using the television connected to the console.

To utilize the PlayStation Portal, players will need to use Sony’s Remote Play feature. Setting up Remote Play requires the PS5 console to be turned on or in rest mode, connected to the Internet, and updated with the latest system software.
