Adobe Photoshop is set to introduce a range of new artificial intelligence (AI) functionalities designed to simplify complex editing tasks for users. Announced on Tuesday, the tech company unveiled a new tool called Harmonize, which allows for quick blending of objects within compositions, achieving a realistic appearance in just a few clicks. Alongside this, an image upscaler tool will be launched, enabling users to enhance image resolution with the aid of generative AI. In addition, the existing object removal feature is receiving upgrades, now capable of generating and seamlessly integrating elements into images.

Despite its status as a leading platform in photo editing, Adobe Photoshop is often regarded as challenging to navigate, particularly for hobbyists. With the rise of generative AI technologies, Adobe has begun to introduce features that aim to mitigate this learning curve. The introduction of the AI-driven blending tool is part of this strategy, as outlined in the company’s blog post.

The Harmonize tool, presently in beta, is accessible on both the desktop and web versions of Photoshop, as well as through the iOS app (early access). Developed using the Adobe Firefly Image model, this tool intelligently blends new objects into existing compositions. By analyzing the surrounding context, it adjusts elements such as color, lighting, shadows, and visual tone to ensure a cohesive final product. According to Adobe, this AI capability significantly reduces the need for manual adjustments, which can be labor-intensive.

Additionally, the company is launching a new upscaling feature named Generative Upscale for Photoshop on desktop and web platforms. This tool, also in beta, can enhance images up to 8 megapixels while maintaining clarity, meeting a strong demand from the Photoshop user community.

Moreover, the existing image removal capability has been upgraded to incorporate the latest Adobe Firefly Image model, enhancing its precision. Available on both desktop and web versions of Photoshop, this updated tool can now produce realistic content to fill voids left by the removal of unwanted objects.

In a bid to expand its capabilities further, Adobe is introducing several non-AI features as well. One notable addition is the Projects feature, currently in beta on the desktop version of Photoshop. This functionality enables users to share entire collections at once, streamlining the process that previously required individual asset sharing.

Lastly, Photoshop desktop users will see the introduction of a new Gen AI Model Picker. This dropdown menu will present various Firefly Image models (including Firefly Image 1 and Firefly Image 3) when utilizing tools like Generative Fill and Generative Expand. Adobe claims that this model picker will enhance user flexibility in deploying AI features.
