This month, Nintendo officially revealed the Nintendo Switch 2 during a Direct presentation, providing audiences with insights into its upcoming console and anticipated games slated for release in 2025. The showcase highlighted notable first-party games such as Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza, along with announcements from various third-party developers regarding their contributions for the new system. In a significant development, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer articulated his commitment to supporting the Switch 2 with titles from Xbox’s portfolio.
Spencer’s Commitment to Nintendo Switch 2
In a recent interview with Variety, Spencer elaborated on Microsoft’s strategy for the Nintendo Switch 2, highlighting the console’s potential to connect with a broader gaming audience.
“We have been supporting the original Switch, and I want to ensure that Switch 2 receives the same support. Nintendo has been a fantastic partner,” Spencer stated. “This presents us with a unique opportunity to engage players who may not identify as PC or Xbox gamers.”
“It allows us to expand our community of fans invested in our franchises, which is crucial for our ongoing commitment to enhancing our games,” he continued. “I firmly believe in the importance of Nintendo in the gaming landscape, and our continued support for them is vital. Their backing for our franchises will play a key role in shaping our future.”
Potential Xbox Titles for Nintendo Switch 2
Spencer has previously confirmed Microsoft’s intention to back the new Nintendo console. Although no specific titles were announced during the Nintendo Direct event on April 2, industry sources have indicated that several Xbox games may be headed to the Switch 2.
In January, gaming insider NateTheHate predicted that titles such as Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and Halo: The Master Chief Collection would be released on both the Nintendo Switch 2 and PS5. Additionally, a Windows Central report suggested that Microsoft plans to enhance its multiplatform strategy in 2025, potentially releasing more games on Sony and Nintendo platforms. Titles such as Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, Age of Mythology: Retold, and possibly Gears of War: Ultimate Edition might find their way to the Switch 2 this year, although Microsoft has yet to officially confirm any specific games for the new console.
Previously, Spencer emphasized Microsoft’s previous support for the Switch platform. In a shift from its traditional focus on Xbox and PC-exclusive titles, the company announced last year that four of its games would be made available on both the Nintendo Switch and PS5. These titles—Pentiment, Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush, and Grounded—have since launched on both platforms and can currently be accessed on the Switch. Looking ahead, Microsoft plans to release Bethesda’s Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on the PS5 later this week, following its initial rollout on PC and Xbox Series S/X.
