Perplexity has announced plans for a new web browser featuring artificial intelligence capabilities, called Comet. Although no launch date has been disclosed, the company has initiated a sign-up waitlist for interested users, who will receive further information as the launch approaches. This announcement follows the introduction of a new Deep Research capability on their AI-powered search platform earlier this month, which enables users to generate comprehensive reports on intricate topics through the test-time compute method.
New AI-Driven Browser From Perplexity
In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Perplexity shared a brief video teasing the Comet browser. The seven-second clip features a new logo animation but provides no further details about the product itself. The company emphasized the term “agentic search” in relation to the browser, although specifics about the features remain unclear.
A dedicated microsite for Comet has been launched, primarily allowing users to join the waitlist. More detailed information about the browser is expected to be revealed as the release date nears, and those who sign up may receive early access to the platform.
The concept of agentic search suggests that Comet will integrate AI agents capable of performing tasks for users. While the specifics of its implementation are not yet known, existing AI agents, such as OpenAI’s Operator AI, are able to facilitate booking tickets, making restaurant reservations, and shopping online.
In addition to developing the browser, Perplexity is actively seeking new team members to contribute to the creation of Comet. Among the multiple job openings is a position for a “Browser C++ Engineer.” The job listing states that Perplexity aims to revolutionize Internet browsing by building a new browser and emphasizes the use of Chromium technology, which is an open-source project overseen by Google for both desktop and mobile platforms.
