On Thursday, Perplexity Labs, a novel artificial intelligence (AI) feature designed for the Perplexity platform, was officially launched. This new functionality enables users to convert text prompts into comprehensive projects, including reports, spreadsheets, and even basic web applications. Utilizing deep web browsing and code execution capabilities, Perplexity Labs can tackle complex tasks that were previously unattainable within the platform. The launch follows the recent introduction of the Perplexity Assistant for iOS by the San Francisco-based AI company.
Perplexity Labs Takes Roughly 10 Minutes to Complete a Task
The company has described Perplexity Labs as an advanced iteration of its Deep Research feature, now available to all Perplexity Pro subscribers. This feature is designed to generate thorough responses to intricate inquiries that typically require multiple searches. By utilizing a variety of specialized tools and allocating additional time to tasks, it can also execute commands and produce documents and web applications.

According to the company, Perplexity Labs is capable of executing deep web browsing, code execution, charting, and image generation. Specific details about the nature of these tools remain undisclosed, including whether they support a multi-agent workflow or if distinct large language models (LLMs) are utilized for functionalities like image creation and code execution.
Perplexity Labs is designed to write and execute code for tasks such as data structuring, applying formulas, and creating documents and charts. All generated documents, code files, charts, and images are stored in a dedicated Assets tab, where users can access and download them. Additionally, an App tab allows for the creation of basic dashboards, slideshows, and websites.
While the feature appears to suggest an agentic capacity, it indicates that tasks may take 10 minutes or longer to complete in a “self-supervised” manner. Users can track the chain-of-thought (CoT), but it is not clear if they have the ability to pause or alter the AI’s process to modify the initial prompt or redirect the output.
The company also provided examples of the types of tasks that Perplexity Labs can manage, which include developing trading strategies for specific stocks or events, generating genre-blended film concepts complete with visual storyboards and screenplays, creating company profiles, and producing comparative data visualizations.
