OnePlus is set to unveil the Nord 5 and Nord CE 5 smartphones in India on July 8. This announcement comes on the heels of the recent launch of the OnePlus 13s, featuring the advanced Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. Now, new speculation has emerged regarding the potential release of a gaming smartphone from the brand. This device is anticipated to include high-end features and shoulder triggers to enhance the gaming experience. However, indications suggest that this smartphone may not be available outside of China, including in the Indian market.
Potential OnePlus Gaming Smartphone
According to a post on X by tipster Yogesh Brar (@heyitsyogesh), OnePlus is developing a “sub-series” of devices specifically designed for gaming enthusiasts. The information suggests that this gaming smartphone is still in an experimental phase, hinting that research and development efforts are ongoing.
Brar also pointed out that the chances of this gaming smartphone being launched globally appear uncertain. If it does reach the market, it’s likely to be exclusive to China, the company’s home territory.
Features anticipated for this gaming-oriented device include a high-performance chipset, a substantial battery, and the integration of shoulder triggers aimed at elevating the user experience. Currently, no further specifications about the device have surfaced.
Should OnePlus introduce this gaming smartphone with shoulder triggers in China, it will face competition from other established gaming phones such as the Asus ROG Phone 9 Pro, ROG Phone 9, as well as the Red Magic 10 Pro and Red Magic 10 Pro+.
In a related development, Infinix has launched the GT 30 Pro 5G in India, featuring GT shoulder triggers designed for gaming, which reportedly have a rapid response rate of 520Hz. The device is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8350 Ultimate SoC, includes an XBoost Gaming Engine, and is backed by an AI-powered VC cooling system. It retails at Rs. 24,999 for the 8GB + 256GB version.
