Nvidia has finalized its acquisition of the Israeli startup Run:ai, enhancing its capabilities with software designed to optimize the performance of AI computing hardware.
Currently, the software is compatible exclusively with Nvidia systems; however, Run:ai announced that it will be made open-source. This move will allow developers to adapt the code to work with hardware from competing manufacturers.
Run:ai expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition in a statement, saying, “We are eager to build on the achievements we’ve obtained until now, expand our talented team, and grow our product and market reach. Open sourcing the software will enable it to extend its availability to the entire AI ecosystem.”
Nvidia has rapidly ascended to become one of the world’s most valuable companies, largely due to its dominance in supplying key components for data centers that facilitate AI-driven services. Although other semiconductor manufacturers have seen significant growth in this sector, none have matched Nvidia’s substantial revenue, which reaches tens of billions of dollars each quarter from sales of accelerator chips.
The company did not disclose the financial details of the acquisition. However, reports from the Israeli newspaper Calcalist suggested that the transaction was valued at $700 million (approximately Rs. 5,990 crore). This acquisition follows Nvidia’s previous major investment in Israel, the $7 billion (around Rs. 59,904 crore) purchase of Mellanox Technologies Ltd. in 2020.
Since 2020, Run:ai has closely collaborated with Nvidia, according to the announcement made in April. The company, founded in 2018 by Omri Geller and Ronen Dar, has been a key player in the AI optimization space.
