The Nothing Phone 3a series, midrange smartphones from the UK-based brand, made their debut in India in March. Operating on Android 15 paired with the NothingOS 3.1 interface, both the Nothing Phone 3a and the Phone 3a Pro will benefit from three years of Android updates and six years of security enhancements. Recently, the company introduced a software update for this lineup, which encompasses a new Privacy Space feature and enables 4K video recording through telephoto and periscope cameras, along with other camera enhancements.
New Features in the NothingOS Update
In a series of announcements made via X (formerly Twitter), Nothing revealed the rollout of a new NothingOS update for both the Phone 3a and Phone 3a Pro. This update empowers users to capture 4K footage using the telephoto camera, while also providing a revamped design for the Nothing X app.
The company specified that Phone 3a and Phone 3a Pro users can now record videos at 4K 30fps utilizing the telephoto camera. In the base Phone 3a, switching to 2x zoom will activate the telephoto lens, while the Phone 3a Pro will use its periscope telephoto lens at 3x zoom.
The latest update also brings a host of camera improvements, such as reduced flicker in slow-motion and zoom video recordings, as well as enhanced capabilities for capturing brighter images in low-light conditions through the telephoto lens. Additionally, filters are now applicable on 50-megapixel images for both models. The updates aim to improve night photography, even in the presence of streetlights, and to enhance selfie quality with improved skin detail and color accuracy.
Alongside these updates, the Nothing X app now features a more immersive and fluid user interface. This app will support the recently launched CMF Buds 2 series, alongside general bug fixes and optimizations.
A significant addition in this update is the new Privacy Space feature, which lets users securely manage sensitive applications and data. This feature can be accessed by swiping right in the app drawer, and users can employ different passwords to unlock the App Locker and Privacy Space separately. A new Hotspot Manager function has been introduced, enabling users to see who is connected to their network. Enhanced overall stability is also part of this update.
Users looking to download the latest NothingOS update can navigate to Settings > System > System updates and select Download and Install. The rollout is happening gradually for users globally and should be accessible in the coming days. This update includes the latest security patch dated April 2025.
