The global debut of the Nothing Phone 3 is set for July 1, coinciding with the launch of the Nothing Headphone 1. The company has announced that the new model will move away from its existing Glyph Interface and introduce the innovative Glyph Matrix. In a recent discussion, Adam Bates, the Head of Design at Nothing, elaborated on the rationale behind this transition and what consumers can anticipate from the enhanced interface. The Phone 3 will be powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset.

In an interview with Design Milk, Bates highlighted that the Glyph Matrix on the Phone 3 aims to maintain the core attributes of the original Glyph Interface while optimizing its functionality.

The updated Glyph Matrix, positioned in a circular format at the top right corner of the device’s rear, replaces the previous LED light strips found in prior models. This compact assembly of micro-LEDs is designed to enable pixel-level animations, symbol-based visuals, and responsive lighting that aligns with sound and user activities.

Bates pointed out that the new micro-LED setup allows for enhanced programmability compared to the segmented LED strips of earlier versions. Users will benefit from the ability to customize lighting effects for various applications and notifications. Beyond being an aesthetic enhancement, the more compact Glyph Matrix design is said to have liberated internal space, enabling improved hardware configurations within the device.

Interestingly, the dot-matrix panel featured on the Nothing Phone 3 bears similarities to the AniMe Vision feature present in the Asus ROG Phone 9 Pro.

Specifications of the Nothing Phone 3

The Nothing Phone 3 is confirmed to utilize Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 SoC, promising five years of operating system upgrades and seven years of security updates. It is expected to house three 50-megapixel cameras on its rear, including a periscope telephoto lens and an ultrawide camera. A 50-megapixel front-facing camera is also anticipated. The device is likely to be equipped with a 5,150mAh battery along with a 6.7-inch 1.5K LTPO OLED display.
