On Tuesday, the Nothing Phone 3 was officially launched in India, featuring Android 15 with Nothing OS 3.5 pre-installed. During the event, the UK-based startup hinted at the impending arrival of its Android 16 update. Google introduced the next version of its operating system last month, but so far, only Pixel devices have received the stable build. This teaser suggests that Nothing smartphones could soon be integrated with the Android 16 update.
Nothing OS 4.0 Release Date
In a wrap-up video detailing the Nothing Phone 3 on the official Nothing YouTube channel, CEO Carl Pei confirmed that the device is equipped with Nothing OS 3.5. He further mentioned that the rollout of Nothing OS 4.0, based on Android 16, will start “later this autumn.”
This suggests a timeframe for the update between September and November.
Though specific details are scarce, the Nothing Phone 3 is anticipated to be the first model from the company to receive the Android 16 update, given its status as the “first true flagship smartphone.”
After the Google I/O event in 2025, the stable version of Android 16 was made available, but currently, it is only being distributed to Pixel devices. Other manufacturers are still in the process of testing the beta software. Pei’s recent comments imply that Nothing is set to join Google in this rollout soon.
It is worth noting that the Nothing OS 3.0 update, which is based on Android 15, was first revealed in September, coinciding with the global launch of the operating system. An open beta for the update began the following month, allowing users to explore its features before the official public release in December.
The update process took just a few weeks to complete across all devices in Nothing’s lineup. A similar timeline for the release of Android 16-powered Nothing OS 4.0 can also be anticipated upon its autumn launch.
