The Nothing Phone 3 is set to debut in July, marking the debut of the brand’s first flagship smartphone. The UK-based manufacturer has hinted that while the upcoming device will feature a range of significant upgrades, it will not include a key design element that has been a hallmark of Nothing smartphones since the Phone 1: the Glyph Interface. This change means that users of the Nothing Phone 1 or Phone 2 who have become accustomed to using the distinctive glowing LEDs for notifications will face a departure from this feature when transitioning to the Phone 3.
No Glyph Interface on Nothing Phone 3
In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Nothing released a short video with the provocative message, “We killed the Glyph Interface.” The clip suggests that this feature will be eliminated, but it remains uncertain whether this decision is a permanent shift for future devices or limited solely to the Nothing Phone 3.
The Glyph Interface was originally introduced with the company’s first smartphone in 2022. Since then, all subsequent models from Nothing have incorporated this signature design element, albeit with slight modifications, allowing them to stand out in the crowded smartphone market.
This interface consists of LED lights on the back of the device that illuminate to signal incoming calls, messages, and battery charging status. Users could customize the light patterns to align with their unique ringtones, providing a personalized touch. Despite this functionality being a feature from the initial Nothing Phone through to the latest model, the anticipated flagship device is expected to forego it.
Described as the brand’s “first true flagship smartphone,” the Nothing Phone 3 will reportedly come with enhanced performance capabilities and high-quality materials. Although detailed specifications have yet to be fully disclosed, some pricing information is available.
During The Android Show: I/O Edition earlier this month, Nothing co-founder Carl Pei indicated that the expected price for the Nothing Phone 3 will be around GBP 800 (approximately Rs. 90,000). This price point represents nearly double that of the Nothing Phone 2, which launched at Rs. 44,999 for the entry-level 8GB + 128GB model.
