On Wednesday, Nothing announced the launch of the beta program for Nothing OS 4.0, which is based on Android 16, specifically for the Phone 3. Led by Carl Pei, the company is inviting select users to participate in the first Closed Beta, which will introduce the native features that were revealed with Android 16 earlier this year.

Nothing OS 4.0 Closed Beta

In a recent update on its community forum, Nothing shared that the first Closed Beta of its Android 16-based software is being rolled out. This initiative comes as an acknowledgment of the strong support the Nothing community has provided to the flagship Nothing Phone 3.

The beta program will give a select group of Nothing Phone 3 users the opportunity to test the new firmware, identify bugs, and offer feedback on the features prior to the public release.

The initial Closed Beta of Nothing OS 4.0 will incorporate a standard selection of features introduced with Android 16. While specific features for the Phone 3’s firmware have not yet been disclosed, Google’s Android 16 includes enhancements such as forced notification auto-grouping, Live Updates, Advanced Protection, and desktop windowing functionalities.

Moreover, Nothing indicated that a significant enhancement will be made to the user interface, aiming for a more cohesive and unified experience in forthcoming updates.

How to Apply

To be part of the first Closed Beta for Nothing OS 4.0 on the Phone 3, users must complete the sign-up form for the Android 16 Closed Beta. The form requires users to provide their email address, full name, and nothing.community username. Additionally, the company requests authorization to gather feedback and logs to improve the software experience.

Participants in the community are eligible to apply for the Android 16 beta program if they meet the following criteria:

  1. Own and use a Nothing Phone 3 on a daily basis
  2. Are willing to provide regular feedback to the Nothing team
  3. Will uphold high standards of information security
  4. Understand that beta software may be unstable and certain features could malfunction
  5. Are prepared to engage in the program from August to early September

According to the company, the public open beta for Nothing OS 4.0 is expected to launch in September.
