Following a period of silence regarding the impact of President Donald Trump’s tariffs on imports from China, Nikon has revealed plans for a price adjustment on its products. This change is set to take effect in the United States on June 23, 2025. Though the company has not specified which imaging products will be affected or the extent of the price hikes, potential buyers may want to consider purchasing items like the Z5 II before the changes are implemented.
“At Nikon, we remain dedicated to delivering top-quality imaging products and value to our customers,” the company stated in a message released on Friday. “Due to the recent tariffs, necessary price adjustments will occur on June 23, 2025. We are actively monitoring tariff developments and may further adjust pricing to align with changing market conditions. We appreciate our customers’ understanding and assure them we are doing everything possible to lessen the impact on our community.”
In a financial results presentation earlier this month, Nikon noted (pdf) that the tariffs could diminish its profits by 10 billion yen, which is approximately $70 million, according to reports from PetaPixel.
Nikon joins a growing number of camera manufacturers that are raising prices in light of US tariffs. Blackmagic Design, based in Australia, recently increased costs for its digital cinema cameras and declared that the tariffs rendered its Dallas factory project financially unfeasible.
During its Q1 financial announcement in late April, Canon informed analysts of upcoming price increases, stating that it was “in the process of estimating the timing and amount of the increase,” according to DPReview. While Canon indicated that these changes would initially be limited to the US market, future tariff developments could affect the decision.
Other manufacturers, including Sony and Leica, have also implemented price hikes recently. Meanwhile, Fujifilm has paused US preorders for several of its cameras, such as the economical X-M5 and the well-received X100VI, as noted by DPReview a month ago.
Lens manufacturer Sigma has also announced changes in pricing, which, like Nikon’s changes, will not take effect until June 2, 2025.
