The team behind the upcoming BioShock installment is undergoing significant changes after an internal assessment led by publisher Take-Two. Cloud Chamber, the developer established by 2K Games in 2019 for the BioShock project, has seen the departure of its studio head, Kelley Gilmore. Further adjustments to the untitled BioShock game are anticipated in the coming months.

Transformations Expected for Upcoming BioShock Title

A recent Bloomberg report outlined concerns raised by senior officials at 2K regarding the game’s development trajectory. The report indicated that the project did not pass a review, triggering the need for extensive revisions, particularly in its narrative elements, which were flagged for enhancement by the executives.

With this shift in focus comes a change in leadership within Cloud Chamber. According to the report, Kelley Gilmore has exited her role, while creative director Hogarth de la Plante has transitioned to a publishing position. Although these leadership changes have not been officially confirmed by 2K, discussions within the company hinted at the possibility of layoffs, emphasizing a need for the studio to operate in a more “agile and efficient” manner.

In a statement to Bloomberg, 2K acknowledged the leadership adjustments and affirmed its commitment to establishing a successful future for the BioShock franchise. “We have a good game in progress, but our goal is to make it great. We are collaborating closely with studio leadership to outline a clear path forward,” the company said.

A representative for 2K also reiterated the company’s aspiration to surpass fan expectations with the forthcoming BioShock title.

Cloud Chamber was created specifically to develop the next BioShock game and operates out of locations in the San Francisco Bay Area (Novato, CA) and Montreal, Quebec. The studio comprises a team of developers with experience on previous BioShock titles.

As of now, 2K has not revealed the official title for the next BioShock game. The latest main entry in the beloved series, BioShock Infinite, debuted in 2013. In 2016, 2K released BioShock: The Collection, which featured updated versions of all three BioShock games.
