Sony has officially revealed plans for a State of Play gaming showcase, set to take place on Thursday, May 30. The live stream is scheduled to commence at 3pm PT / 6pm ET (or Friday, 3:30am IST) and will offer updates on titles for both the PS5 and PS VR2. Viewers can also expect to see previews of Sony’s first-party games that are slated for release later this year. The previous State of Play event occurred on February 6, featuring an in-depth look at Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Anticipated Highlights of State of Play

The upcoming showcase is expected to run for more than 30 minutes and will spotlight 14 different games for the PS5 and PS VR2. While Sony has not provided specifics regarding the showcase contents, there are speculations about a new Astro Bot title from Team Asobi, updates on Destiny 2: The Final Shape, and potential announcements regarding PC support for the PS VR2. Major updates from Sony’s first-party studios, such as a new Wolverine reveal from Insomniac Games or future titles from Naughty Dog or Santa Monica Studio, are not likely, as the emphasis will be on PlayStation Studios games set to launch in 2024.

Upcoming Summer Gaming Events

This State of Play showcase will signal the beginning of the summer gaming season. Following Sony’s presentation on May 30, Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest, which has effectively taken the place of E3 as the premier summer gaming event, will be streamed on June 7. That same day, Devolver Digital will host its own Direct presentation. Additionally, Summer Game Fest’s Day of the Devs, which highlights indie games, is also scheduled for June 7.

On June 9, Microsoft will present the Xbox Games Showcase, which will be directly followed by a Direct presentation focused on Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. The PC Gaming Show is also set to occur on June 9. The following day, Ubisoft Forward will feature anticipated updates on titles such as Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Star Wars Outlaws.

This year, Sony has already conducted two State of Play events. The first took place on January 31 and showcased titles including Death Stranding 2, Stellar Blade, and Rise of the Ronin. The second, dedicated to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, was broadcast on February 6. The upcoming event will be available to viewers on PlayStation’s YouTube, Twitch, and TikTok channels.
