Google has announced a new enhancement to its Gemini tool within Gmail, aimed at simplifying the process of scheduling events in Google Calendar. The company revealed on Monday that a new button will be introduced, enabling users to create and save calendar events with just a tap. The AI-driven chatbot is designed to detect emails containing details related to calendar events and utilize that information for automatic event creation. This integration follows the initial link between Gmail’s Gemini and Google Calendar established last year, which allowed users to make calendar-related inquiries.
New Calendar Button for Gemini in Gmail
In a recent update on its Workspace blog, Google elaborated on the new feature. Eligible users can already perform various actions with Google Calendar and pose questions using Gemini in Gmail, but the introduction of this new button will enhance their ability to set up events automatically.

The blog post included a screenshot demonstrating the feature in action. The new “Add to Calendar” button will be positioned next to the existing “Summarise this email” button in the email interface, appearing directly below the subject line.
Google specified that the button will only be visible on relevant emails that contain references to calendar events. For example, if a user’s manager sends an email indicating that they should be available for a meeting at a specified date and time, the AI will recognize this as a calendar event and display the button accordingly.
Once the button is activated, a side panel featuring Gemini opens, allowing the AI to directly create the calendar event. Users will then receive a notification confirming that the event has been added to Google Calendar, alleviating the need to manually enter details or issue a prompt to Gemini.
The screenshot also indicated that the created event will feature an edit icon, enabling users to make adjustments and modifications to the event’s details. Currently, this feature is available exclusively in English and through the web interface. Google has noted that the button will not be displayed for emails that already contain extracted events, nor will it automatically invite other participants.
This new capability will be accessible to Google Workspace Business and Enterprise accounts, along with users possessing the Gemini Education or Gemini Education Premium add-ons, as well as subscribers to Google One AI Premium. However, it will not be available to personal Google Workspace accounts or free Gmail users.
