X, previously known as Twitter, is reportedly working on a new feature that will allow users to see posts from accounts they have blocked. Currently, individuals cannot view the posts, replies, or any media from those they have chosen to block. This dynamic may be shifting, according to the platform’s owner, Elon Musk. Additionally, recent reports indicate that X may soon introduce payment services, furthering Musk’s ambition to transform the app into an all-encompassing platform.
Elon Musk Addresses Changes to Blocking Feature
In a message shared on X, app researcher @nima_owji revealed that the platform plans to modify its existing blocking system. Should a user’s account be set to public, their posts will become accessible to users who have been blocked. Responding to this announcement, Musk remarked, “High time this happened.”
The updated blocking feature, according to Musk, will allow the blocked account to refrain from interacting with the blocker, yet it will not prevent blocked users from viewing posts from public profiles.
Musk has previously expressed discontent with social media blocking features. During the past year, he labeled the blocking option as illogical and suggested replacing it with a more effective “mute” option. In August 2023, he even hinted at the possibility of eliminating the feature altogether from X, while still maintaining it for direct messages.
This anticipated change is expected to be introduced soon. However, staff at Gadgets 360 were unable to view posts during trials of the current blocking feature, indicating that such modifications may not have been deployed yet.
Enhancements to Community Notes Feature
Alongside the adjustments to the blocking feature, X is also rumored to be enhancing its community notes functionality. This new capability would allow users to attach a community note to a specific link, which would be visible on any post containing that link. Users can opt for the feature to be displayed on all related posts. Musk confirmed the development by commenting, “Community Notes.”
