Moonvalley, a startup based in Los Angeles specializing in artificial intelligence (AI), unveiled its latest generative video model on Wednesday. Named Marey in honor of Étienne Jules Marey, a trailblazer in the field of cinematography, the AI model is reported to be developed using only ethically sourced and licensed data. This approach minimizes potential legal risks, making it an appealing choice for filmmakers and movie studios looking to adopt new technologies.
Moonvalley Launches Marey AI Video Model
The announcement was made via a post on X (formerly Twitter), where Moonvalley’s official account described Marey as a “clean” model specifically designed for filmmakers and exclusively trained on licensed content.
According to a blog post from the company, Moonvalley aims to move beyond the conventional “text in, video out” paradigm prevalent in other video generation models. This traditional approach often provides limited control for filmmakers and doesn’t align with their established creative processes.
The blog emphasized, “The creative process is iterative by nature; you never make things in one go. And people want to use these models to augment their skills, not hand them a finished product.”
A report by TechCrunch notes that Marey stands out from standard video generation models by providing filmmakers with enhanced control over the output. It introduces customization features such as motion control and camera types, and allows users to manage the movements of elements within a scene. As reported in a press release, Marey can create HD resolution video clips lasting up to 30 seconds.
Marey will also support multiple input modalities, including text, storyboards, sketches, photos, and existing video clips. The technology is intended to integrate seamlessly into the workflows and systems that filmmakers already utilize.
Further details about Marey have yet to be shared by the company. Currently, access to the model is restricted to a limited number of early users, while others can sign up for a waitlist to eventually experience it.
